If you’d like to grow your kinesthetic awareness and become more pliable, enroll in our “Fascial Pliability” class at Structural Elements! This class is carefully designed to hydrate and mobilize stuck fascia, therefore enhancing your pliability.
Why Pliability?
“Life is a dance between the fluid and the fiber”- Tom Meyers, Anatomy Trains
There are places in the body that need structure, weight, and stability. On the other hand, there are places in the body that need flow, s p a c e, and mobility. To be “pliable” we need to balance these opposites to create suppleness and adaptable strength.
As a professional dancer, I have experimented deeply with my own movement for years. I know from my own practice and also from my studies in Dance Science that mindfulness is essential for surpassing our limits and reaching into our own movement potential. Mind and body are the same in movement. Training mindfully enhances kinesthetic awareness, subsequently expanding movement variability and preventing injuries.
Lack of movement in our daily lives threatens our kinesthetic health and leads to sickness or injury. Linear and mindless movement in the gym or “fun” group training sessions do not contribute to pliability. To be pliable we need to engage in playful vector-variant movement, and also we need to do this with intention!
Mindful and vector-variant training are present in dance, but, are not just for dancers. Everyone can benefit from this kind of movement training!
Who is this class for?
- Someone looking to engage in a different type of movement practice
- If understanding the “why” behind movement is interesting to you
- Anyone who feels disconnected from their body
- If you feel like there are areas of the body that are “blocked” or “stiff”
- If you are interested in a very functional, practical application of fitness
People don’t stick with fitness programs that are not meaningful , playful, and practical. In this class, you will learn new patterns of movement in addition to challenging some old ones- actively engaging the parts of your brain and nervous system that guide motor behavior.
Wherever you are on the movement spectrum, we will work together to build foundational skills. You will discover a new ease and elegance as we experiment with different movement combinations that have strong applications in your everyday life.
What should I expect?
Similar to a modern dance class we will practice lying on the ground, sitting, standing and traveling accross the floor. We will cue you to move from the core. To clarify, we don’t just mean “Ab’s!” Good movement is driven from your center. It involves your breath, spine and pelvis. Knowing how to access center will improve the movement you do in daily life! The periphery, or the limbs, need to know how to move in tangent with the center. A coordination, or a “dance” of the center to the periphery needs to be present for efficiency in movement. You will learn to use your limbs with strength and grace.
In Fascial Pliability, we will challenge and improve your Stability, Mobility, Balance, Strength, and Endurance. We’ll hone your Mind/Body connection. We will expand your access to movement variability and grow your kinosphere.
